How to earn $100K a year: build scope, scarcity and proof

The shortest route to $100K is rarely “work longer”. Compensation changes when the market can see that you solve a costly problem, own a larger outcome and can prove the result.

Choose a compensation engine

Technical scarcity, revenue ownership, regulated credentials and operational scale are common engines. Pick one that fits your existing evidence. A lateral move into a fashionable title is weaker than extending a capability that employers already trust you to use.

Move from tasks to outcomes

Rewrite your experience around the system, risk, budget or customer result you owned. Quantify the before-and-after state and explain your decision. This gives a recruiter evidence of level even when your current title is understated.

Set a threshold before interviewing

Know the minimum package that makes a move rational, including bonus reliability, equity, retirement, health costs and commute. A pre-set threshold prevents urgency from turning a career decision into a salary-only decision.
